First Gay Men With Erectile Dysfunction Support Program Started

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

CockErectile Dysfunction (ED) affects millions of gay and bisexual men in the United States. Yet it is one of the least discussed and least treated conditions among gay men. GayED.org is a national support group to help gay men with peer to peer information about impotence.
A new support group program for gay and bisexual men presenting with erectile dysfunction and impotence has been developed by the national nonprofit gay men’s health organization, Malecare. GayED.org includes in-person and on-line support groups, on-line lecture series and teleconferences and will also promote research into the unique issues gay men with erectile dysfunction face.
“GayEd.org responds to a problem facing gay men throughout the world,” said Darryl Mitteldorf, LCSW, the social worker who is Malecare’s Executive Director.
“GayED provides peer to peer support and great advice and information on treatments and techniques for having love filled and intimate relationships between men who enjoy sex with other men. It doesn’t matter if your impotence is caused by prostate cancer treatment or emotional issues…GayED.org will be there to help you” Mr. Mitteldorf reported.
Malecare facilitated the first gay men with erectile dysfunction support groups as an outgrowth of it’s work in prostate cancer, in 2002 and started to develop them into a comprehensive national program starting in 2011. The online support group at http://www.gayed.org launched Monday, July 9, 2012. The groups are supervised by Malecare’s volunteer social workers and psychologists.
“Gay men deal with impotence differently than straight men. The GayED.org support group is a lifesaver for me,” said Fred S., a 59 year old out gay man who is suffering impotence from diabetes.

Kirk Cameron Joins With Anti-Gay Marriage Group

Who said Kirk Cameron would never work in this town again?
The National Organization for Marriage has released a video labeling Kirk Cameron “one of America’s most important champions of marriage,” an apparent tip of the hat in response to his vocal opposition to same-sex unions.
To put it mildly, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation thinks Cameron and NOM are full of crap.
“Kirk Cameron and the anti-gay activists at NOM are making a claim that Americans know to be false,” GLAAD President Herndon Graddick said in a statement following the release of the NOM video. “This rhetoric won’t work anymore. Communities across this country love and cherish their LGBT neighbors, friends and family members. This includes people in families headed by LGBT people. Their implication that LGBT couples can’t create loving and stable homes is not only outdated and irrelevant; it’s designed specifically to hurt those families.”
“If we want a great future in this world, we have to take God at his word,” the former Growing Pains star says in the “Champion of Marriage” video, “and God makes it really clear that society and civilization is really held together by the glue of families…It needs to be a home that is full of faith, and in order to have that kind of a home, marriages need to be strong because that’s ultimately going to serve as the foundation for our family, right, a strong marriage? When a man and a woman come together and say ‘I do,’ they are committing for a lifetime to love each other and to model what love is and what forgiveness is and what joy is to their kids.”
Seemingly everything Cameron said about marriage should go for anyone taking the vows, regardless of the sex of the spouses, but…apparently NOM thinks that covenant is exclusive to heterosexual couples. The group’s latest press release praises GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s stance opposing the legalization of gay marriage.
“Governor Romney has it exactly right that marriage as the union of one man and one woman is a pro-family policy that uplifts American families, especially in the black community,” NOM president Brian Brown said in a statement released today. “The strongest supporters of traditional marriage include African Americans, 70 percent of whom have voted for traditional marriage. We commend Governor Romney and the rank and file members of the NAACP for recognizing the importance of traditional marriage.”
For the record, NAACP leadership endorsed President Barack Obama’s statement in support of gay marriage back in May.
Back in March, following the media furor over Cameron calling gay marriage “detrimental to so many foundations of our civilization,” NOM drew up strategy documents (that were subsequently obtained and posted online by GLAAD) calling for like-minded celebs and pretty people to join its cause.
“Hollywood with its cultural biases is far bigger than we can hope to be,” the document read, per GLAAD. “We recognize this. But we also recognize the opportunity—the disproportionate potential impact of proactively seeking to gather and connect a community of artists, athletes, writers, beauty queens and other glamorous non-cognitive elites across national boundaries.”

Jon Voight Defends Brad Pitt’s Mom

You can always count on family.
Last week, Brad Pitt’s mother Jane Pitt hit headlines after penning a response letter-to-the-editor of her local newspaper, Missouri’s Springfield News Leader, in which she advocated support for Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, referring to him as a “a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality.”
“Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama – a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage,” she continued. “I hope all Christians give their vote prayerful consideration because voting is a sacred privilege and a serious responsibility.”
However, it seems the backlash surrounding Jane’s opinion has become so vehement that she has reportedly been “scared into silence.”
According to WND, Mrs. Pitt has not only been the victim of vulgar and hate-filled attacks, but she has also received death threats which have left her very frightened.
The tweets reportedly included: “BRAD PITT’S MOM WROTE AN ANTI-GAY PRO-ROMNEY EDITORIAL. KILL THE BITCH” and, simply, “Brad Pitt’s mom, die.”
Some media outlets too had their way with her words as well, complete with headlines and references stating that she is “homophobic” and “hates Obama and gay people.”
But Mrs. Pitt has at least one high-profile supporter on her daughter-in-law’s side of the family: Jolie’s dad Jon Voight!
“Good for her,” Voight told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column, adding that he agrees with the points-of-view expressed by Jane.
A rep for Brad Pitt, an avid supporter of President Obama, did not respond for further comment. Jane Pitt declined further comment when we attempted to reach her.
Brad’s brother Doug also defended his mother earlier this week during an appearance on the “Today Show.”
“I think moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world. So why would our family be any different? There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you,” he said. “The bad thing is when it turns to venom and negativity, and we don’t have that in our family. It’s open discussion. We can learn from each other and, if anything, it solidifies your point. Or maybe you learn something.”
Oh, to be a fly on the wall when Brangelina and the family sit down for Sunday dinner in that big French castle they bought…
